Baseball was once on the schedule for the summer Olympics and it looks like it might be back on the ballot for the 2016 Olympic Games. As you can imagine if Major League baseball players were selected for the games, it would directly conflict with the American MLB schedule. In a recent interview with the VP of the MLB, Bob Watson said, “We are not going to shut down the season, that's the reality (reuters.com),” in response to what would happen to the Major League baseball players selected for Team USA.
It makes sense that the season would go on as planned and I would expect the teams with star Major League baseball players missing to move their schedules around so they would not have to play during the absence. Taking star athletes from the team would inherently make them worse and it wouldn’t be fair for those teams that still had the full line up. What do you think about this latest baseball news? Should baseball come back to the Olympics?
Bob Watson did say there would be a chance of the MLB season being put on hold if the 2016 Olympics were in Chicago or Tokyo.
